RE: Specification Revision
Dear Design Professional:
The intent of this notice is to inform designers and
specification writers of a Masonry Industry Revision relative to Type I
and Type II Concrete Masonry Units (CMU).
The reference to Classification Type I and Type II Units has been eliminated in the
latest revision of ASTM C 90-01. You can view this latest revision
by click on News You Can Use page. The previous edition of
ASTM C
90-99a is referenced in the CCMA Yellow Concrete Masonry Manual and
should be deleted. Please make reference to the New ASTM C
90-01 for
any new projects.
This endorsement will improve the performance of the masonry
wall system by providing control joints in proper locations, thereby
minimizing restraint. The
wall will then be allowed to react to chemical, thermal and physical
change with a reduced likelihood that cracks may develop. view

PLEASE MAKE THIS INDUSTRY CHANGE IN YOUR MASTER SPECIFICATIONS
SECTION 04200.
Thank you for your support in
designing with Concrete Masonry Units.
